In chapter 15 the trial for tom robinson is near and they move him to Maycomb jail, which is described as the most venerable and hideous of the county’s buildings. There is a graduate build up in tension when Atticus goes to meet up with tom robinson, in order to keep him safe from the lynch mob that has arisen and is worried for tom robinson safety. As time passes by scout, jem and dill appear at maycomb jail, with intention to suprise him but find themselves doing the opposite.”I thought he would have a fine surprise, but his face killed my joy” this quote is told by Jean Louise Finch, who is narrating on account of Scout’s version of events retrospectively. On top of that this quote back up point about how tension is created because the quote itself depicts happiness turning into sadness. I feel sympathy for Scout because her intention was not to make Atticus angry and because she is so young which explains why she wants to know alot of things.
