How is Calpurnia’s identity shown in chapter 12 of TKAM

In chapter 12 calpurnia’s identity is shown massively because she is told by Scout that she has a ‘double life’, meaning she is unsure of her identity. This happens when Calpurnia sends Jem and Scout to a black church and they seem to find that Calpurnia is acting differeny towards them, instead of her normal. Moreover, Jem and Scout find out a shocking mystery, that Calpurnia has a child who barely knows him. She also barely acknowledeges her birthday, which makes us believe that Scout is right and Calpurnia is living a double life. We start to feel alot of sympathy for Calpurnia because she has put her social life beside and focused more on being a housewife for the finches.

  1. You show some understanding of characters and events – with an attempt to develop inferences if character.

    Targets:
Proof- read – is your meaning clear, have you used the right words? For instance – prominent might fit better in the first sentence rather than massively. Take instead of send.

Make your inferences clear as just that – your inferences, look at the evidence in the text and then say why you believe this. You believe that there is a gulf between Calpurnia and Zeebo – this is only hinted in the text – why do you think this?

I like you last sentence – this has the beginning of an interesting argument – develop this and use a quotation from the text.
